...

I have finished Amerika. I have not finished the fragments at the end of the book, and I am not going to. My love for the story is not so much that I wish to read all of them. Like the deleted scenes on a DVD they are a nice but useless extra. I am unsure what to think of the story so far, I am sure in six months to a years time I will think back to it and smile as I think it over. It takes me a long time to digest Kafka's writing. I can be incredibly pretentious when I want to be. I am working on getting rid of this. Would I recommend the book? No. It is good, people should read it, but there are better books out there. What the book has done has convinced me that I should not read any more books that were unfinished at time of publication and were never intended to be published. This is problematic as I have a copy of Truman Capote's Summer Crossing to read some time in January of next year. I am not joking, since getting regular full time work I have bought about 16 books. Books which all require reading. Maybe I should have invested in a television and pay TV service.
